Tiger Woods’ remarkable victory at the US Open could effectively seriously threaten the career of the world’s greatest golfer as the extent of his injuries were made public.
‘It was important to me that I disclose my condition publicly at an appropriate time,’ Woods said on his website.
‘Now, it is clear that the right thing to do is listen to my doctors, follow through with this surgery, and focus my attention on rehabilitating my knee.’
Playing with injuries that would have confined any other sports star to months in the treatment room, Woods winced through the pain and even had to tolerate quips from his fellow pro’s that he was laying it on.
So sit down, as if this happened to you, you probably won’t be standing up for a while…Woods unbelievably won his 14th major having a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a double stress fracture of his left fibia.
So serious is the knee injury Woods will spend the rest of the season after surgery in lengthy rehabilitation and will miss the Open and the Ryder Cup in September.
To even play in Torrey Pines was remarkable, to win after an 18-hole play-off with such injuries is superhuman.
It’s those traits that leave us in no doubt that Woods will make a full recovery and march on to claim even more majors, surpassing Jack Nicklaus’ 18 Majors haul.
Get well soon Tiger, and rest that sodding knee.
