Nice guys come last, right? Not in the case of South African Trevor Immelman as he landed the Masters at Augusta for his first Major.
The winner by three strokes, the 28-year-old had a benign tumour removed only four months ago: ‘This has been the ultimate rollercoaster ride, and I hate rollercoasters,’ Immelman said.
‘Here I am, after missing the cut last week, Masters champion. It is the craziest thing I have ever heard.’
In tough windy condition, Tiger Woods just couldn’t muster a final round charge.
Before the tournament Tiger was probably thinking aloud when he said this year all the Majors could be won by him. His form suggested it could happen but the world No1 heaped a load of extra pressure on himself to make Augusta count.
Perhaps the great man needs to crank up the pressure on himself to kickstart the adrenalin.
After all, if he stopped playing golf tomorrow it would be 12 months before anyone would catch him as world No1.
